Taking It Easy
Haven’t really been doing much lately… I’ve been pretty lazy as it would. So here are two of my latest paintings. The former is just about done and the latter is probably not even half way. Enjoy…

An update — Paintings and Sketches
This one is nearing the finish line, I’ll take a look at it tomorrow with fresh eyes to see what I think about it. Horrid picture as always. The actual painting is a little warmer than that.
Detail Shot.
And now some random sketches.
This last one was for a flyer for the birthday party my mom wanted to throw me for my 21st. She told me not to make it “too dark.” So I decided to make it really really ugly instead.

IF 04 – Shaky
So, I wasn’t originally planning on doing this one, but the last painting I did went so smoothly, I figured this one wouldn’t take me very long. I got the idea while walking my friend to the train station and a homeless man jumped out in front of us shaking a cup full of change, asking if we could spare some. This is actually atypical behavior for the bums in Philly, but I’ve seen it quite a few times in New York. Also, for those of you not in Philadelphia, the “With Love, Philadelphia, xoxo” thing is a new advertising campaign to try and encourage more tourism. Broad St. is lined with them, in different languages, no less.

Time Lapse Painting
And I ended with the following:

IF 03 – Worn
So this was kind of last minute… like literally, I started painting at 10:30pm. I’ve been lurking around ConceptArt.org for a while, and came across one of the artists I used to really admire in high school, Mark Behm. I guess that’s inaccurate to say, because upon rediscovering his stuff, the admiration began again. On his blog he’s posted a few of his oil sketches. I love coming across these things, because experienced artists always make it look easy, which is encouraging. Generally, when you actually start doing it, it turns out being far more challenging than you imagined, but oh well. So anyway, his 20 minute oil sketches encouraged me to start doing fast oil paintings in the same manner. That is how the following came to be.

The topic was “worn.” I didn’t take my day of contemplation to conceptualize like I usually do. Actually I thought of the concept on my way to the art store. As I was scurrying down Broad St. I could see rather ominous dark clouds coming my way. For those of you who haven’t been in the North East lately, it’s been raining incesantly. Not to mention, the high humidity from the incoming storm made the walk of 15 blocks one way torturous. The only thing I could think of was, “Fuck this shit!” Yeah, basically that’s how I thought of this. Originally, I wanted there to be explicit clouds over the skyline, but remember how I said, sometimes things seem easy until you start doing them? Case and point…
I’ll get a better picture as soon as the sun comes up.
